IMAX^® Dome Theatre

The IMAX^® Dome Theatre has long been the most popular attraction at the Detroit Science Center and many students have filled its seats. The IMAX^® Dome is the only domed theatre in Michigan. It is also one of the only 62 IMAX^® Dome Theatres in the world. The IMAX^® screen measures 3.5 stories tall and 65.7 feet in diameter and delivers the highest quality in cinematic viewing in the world. The theatre presents films that entertain as well as educate. Along with each film, teacher's guides are available for in-class activities related to the film.

As a part of the Science Center's extensive renovation and expansion, in 2001, the IMAX^® Dome Theatre received a new state-of-the-art sound system with sound enhancements and a new 15,000-watt lamp house to increase the brightness of the new dome.
