Educator-Part-time
The Detroit
Science Center is seeking
Science Educators. These are part-time positions (up to
29 hours per week) that will be serve as an educator in
grant-funded classroom programs, exhibit laboratories,
temporary and traveling exhibits for scouting events,
birthdays, outreaches, travel science camp-ins and
workshops.
Specific Duties include:

Present programs to groups from ages
pre-school to adult.
-
Present science activities in the exhibit
galleries and other locations throughout the Science
Center.

Present programs at outreach and traveling
science events outside the Science
Center.

Assemble and organize supplies for upcoming
programs and workshops.
-
Work with other staff educators to create
new science activities for K-12 children.
-
Maintain a presence in the Exhibit
Laboratories to assist visitors.
Qualifications:
-
Must have a college a background in
education, (college degree, past or current college
student, or accumulated college credits) or equivalent
experience.

Knowledge or interest in one or more of the
following: physical science, life sciences, space
sciences and/or engineering and technology.

Ability to explain new concepts in a
friendly and enthusiastic way to audiences who represent a
wide range of educational backgrounds.

Excellent interpersonal and strong
communication skills.
-
Must have valid drivers license and
reliable transportation.

Must be will to work a flexible schedule,
which includes weekends and some evenings.

Stage Presenter/Guide
Presenters/Guides provide high-quality
interpretive, informational, and educational performances
for in-house exhibits, the DTE Sparks Energy Theater and the
DaimlerChrysler Science Stage. Presenters also provide
high-quality comprehensive demonstrations and activities for
special events.
Presenters/Guides must display
professionalism and flexibility when dealing with the
public, clarity in speech to convey ideas and information to
assist visitors, the ability to adapt to an audience�s size
and needs, flexibility, adaptability, and the ability to
learn quickly.
Qualifications:
-
High School Diploma. Two years of college
preferred.

A background in Anatomy and/or any related
science field preferred.

Dramatic, improvisational, creative public
speaking skills and experience.
-
Ability to interact well with diverse
audiences and patrons.
-
Ability to learn quickly and perform
without a script.
-
Ability to work productively with limited
supervision.
-
Excellent interpersonal and communication
skills.
-
Ability to work well with all levels of
staff, volunteers and the general public.
-
Reliable and dependable transportation.
-
Evening and weekend availability a must for
traveling science, special events, and traveling exhibit.
