The mission of the New Detroit Science Center is to inspire children and their families to discover and appreciate science, technology and engineering. The New Detroit Science Center seeks employees who are interested and committed to become part of a team providing all constituents with an exceptional visitor experience.


SBC Children's Gallery Assistant (Weekends Only)
The New Detroit Science Center is seeking an assistant for the SBC Children's Gallery. This exciting and innovative gallery serves preschool and kindergarten age children. It offers opportunities for children to explore and discover scientific principles through interactive play. The Children's Gallery Assistant will assist in the facilitation of programs including lessons and demonstrations.

Qualifications:

  • Educational background and experience in early childhood education
  • Exceptional ability to interact with children ages 2-6 years of age
  • Basic knowledge of physical sciences, life sciences, and earth sciences.
  • Willingness to be an active contributor to programs of the Children's Gallery
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills

Science Educator
Science Educators assist in the development of programs and serve as program presenters in the Ford Learning Resource Center for ages preschool to adult. Science Educators also present programs and conduct activities in the Science Center's exhibit laboratories for scouting events and birthdays.

Qualifications:

  • Must have a college degree or be currently pursuing an education degree or equivalent museum education experience.
  • College-level classes in one or more of the following: physical sciences, life sciences, chemistry, space sciences and/or engineering and technology.
  • Ability to explain new concepts in a friendly and enthusiastic way to audiences who represent a wide range of educational backgrounds
  • Must be willing to work a flexible schedule that includes weekends

Ticketing Representative
The Operations Department is seeking ticketing representatives. The ticketing representative serves as cashier and ticket seller. He or she is expected to be knowledgeable about all programs and exhibits and other aspects of general operating procedures as they pertain to visitors of the Science Center.

 Qualifications:

  • Completion of high school or equivalent educational certificate
  • Ability to work well with the general public, school personnel, students, and volunteers with ease and enthusiasm
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of employees, managers, and the general public
  • Ability to handle cash, checks and charges and count change
  • Previous customer service experience a plus
  • Must be dependable and have reliable transportation � Must be willing to work a flexible part-time schedule, including some weekends and special events
