THE "GIGANTA TRACK"

The Detroit Science Center wants to inspire kids of all ages to think BIG when it
comes to engineering and technology. So when it came to creating our own
Pinewood Derby Track, we decided to think huge! Over 200-feet HUGE!!!

Engineered and built by the Detroit Science Center’s Design and Exhibit shop, this
6-lane, 40ft high, wood and steel monster has a 20ft speed drop to propel your car
through the first of two banked turns (20° and 45°). Everyone will watch and cheer as your derby
car is hurled around several levels of our museum to an electronically-timed victory.

Here's some of the process from building!
The track is being fabricated by the DSC Exhibit and Design Shop located in Ferndale. 

the next phase of this project is to begin putting the steel support structure in the museum. 
( this is beginning next week)
